The Season is Underway!

Team registration is closed, and all active teams are assigned to an event. Come join us for the celebration! See the list of dates and locations here.. There is no charge to attend as a spectator. The best time to drop in is late morning or early afternoon.

Better yet, consider volunteering at one of the events. We need hundreds of adult volunteers, mainly as judges. No experience? No worries! Judges are trained and supported by experienced volunteers. All you need is a willingness to meet and engage with future leaders and problem solvers to give them feedback and encouragement. See this page for more.

Get Inspired by Watching Last Season’s STATE Championship

Each season we celebrate teams who qualify at the Maryland State FLL Challenge Championship Tournament held in the UMBC Retriever Activities Center.

Save the Date for this year’s Tournament: Saturday, February 21, 2026.

FIRST participants will use creative thinking and LEGO® technology to follow the traces of the past: uncover hidden treasures, mysterious artifacts, and forgotten stories in UNEARTHED.

What we do

FIRST LEGO League provides students age 9-14 with a hands-on, interactive robotics program in a sports-like atmosphere. Teams of up to 10 players focus on team building, problem solving, creativity, and analytical thinking to develop solutions to a problem currently facing the world – the Challenge.

Each August, a new Challenge is unveiled to FLL teams across the world. Over the ensuing several months the teams strategize, design, build, program, test and refine a fully autonomous robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS™ technology. The teams also do their own research, talk to professionals, and develop compelling presentations which relate to the Challenge. At FLL competitions, the teams are evaluated on their robot’s performance, their presentation, teamwork and robot design.
